Knowing how to taste wine properly will allow you to fully enjoy all your efforts and allow you to explore and identify all the different characteristics of many different types of wine. The first step is to pick and hold the glass by the stem. This is to avoid your hands warming up the wine and leaving unsightly fingerprints on the glass. |
| Closely look at the colour and clarity of wine. Nearly all White wines are a p pale yellow-gold colour, and some may even have a tinge of green. regardless of the colour, all white wines should be brilliantly clear. After observing the colour, swirl the wine around in the glass by rotating it in a slow, steady circular direction. This exposes the wine to air and helps release the wine's full bouquet. Next, sniff the wine. Is it flowery, fruity, or does it have a natural bouquet? The aroma should be clean and pure, but at the same time complex. Each aroma is unique. Finally, sip the wine and swirl it around in your mouth to enjoy its full flavour. The taste of well-made, well-balanced wine should carry through the promise of its bouquet. A good wine will have clean, appealing taste with no off-flavours or unaccountable bitterness or flatness. In the same way, the aftertaste should be a pleasant, lingering sensation. In a short, a good wine gives you a pleasurable, satisfying memory. | |
